Our conference

2. June 2020

AMUN – Alster Model United Nations is an international MUN conference hosted by the Gymnasium Klosterschule in Hamburg.

After participating in EGMUN, MUNNY and MUNOL several times, we had the wish to run an own conference. Starting in 2016 with the very successful, first session of AMUN, which has been our first international conference. Due to the current situation we are considering alternative solutions such as a digital MUN conference in September, an eAMUN, which aims at transferring not only the debates on an online platform, but also the other fun parts like social events. For more information read the letter by the Conference Managers.

What is AMUN all about?

We offer you four days full of interesting debates and great experiences with your fellow participants. The conference does not only aim at simulating the United Nations’ work, but also offers an opportunity to improve the understanding between people from different cultural backgrounds.

Every participant will represent one UN-member state or an NGO (non-governmental organisation) in a delegation. Every delegate will also be assigned one of the four committees. Before the conference starts, all students are expected to send in position papers. The Secretaries General will provide further information as soon as the registration process has been completed.

Since an MUN tries to simulate the workings of the United Nations as closely as possible, the UN dress-code must be adhered to. This means that formal clothing is required. As one of the official languages of the UN, English is the formal language of the conference.
